Denim care
Good denim gets better with time. A little care keeps the color rich, the fit right and your favorite pieces going for years.
Washing
- Wash less often. Airing out your denim between wears is usually enough.
- Turn it inside out to protect the color and the surface of the fabric.
- Use cold water and a gentle cycle with a mild detergent.
- Wash with similar colors, especially the first few times, as indigo can bleed.
Drying
- Hang dry or lay flat, away from direct sunlight.
- Avoid the tumble dryer. Heat can shrink denim and weaken stretch fibers.
- Smooth out seams and pockets while damp so they dry flat.
Spot cleaning
For small marks, dab gently with a damp cloth and a drop of mild soap. Don't rub hard, as this can lighten the color.
Storing
- Fold jeans and skirts, or hang them by the belt loops.
- Hang jackets on a wide hanger to keep the shoulders in shape.
Stud and trim details
For pieces with studs, ruffles or ties, wash inside out in a laundry bag, or hand wash in cold water.
